Thrive by FiveTM:
Teaching Your Preschooler About Spending and Saving

Children learn about money from many sources.  As a parent, you will not be the only influence on what your child learns about using money. But when you teach basic lessons about money, you increase the chance that your child?s values will be similar to yours.

Thrive by Five  provides simple activities and other resources, which are parent-and-child tested, meant to give you ideas for:

  • Teaching how money works and what it can do,
  • Talking about how your family uses money, and
  • Modeling good money management.

Thrive by Five  was made possible by a grant from the National Credit Union Foundation, with additional funds from the Ohio Credit Union Foundation and the Texas Credit Union Foundation.

ATM Savvy

ATM's are a big help to those needing cash when a trip to the Credit Union is inconvenient. However, using an ATM does carry some risk. Follow the tips below to make your ATM use safe and hassle-free;

     *Always observe your surroundings before using the ATM. If anyone or anything appears suspicious, leave the area immediately.
     *If an ATM is obstructed from view or poorly lit, use a different ATM.
     *Make your transaction short by having your card out and ready to use. Wait to count your money until you are a safe distance away.
     *Look for possible fraudulent devices attached to the ATM. If the ATM looks different or appears to have any attachments over the card slot or PIN pad, do not use the ATM.
     *During an ATM transaction, shield your PIN and transaction amount from view.
     *Never allow a stranger to assist you in conducting an ATM transaction, even if you have trouble or if your card is stuck.

     If you're interested in saving a few dollars every time you go to the ATM, search for No-Surcharge ATM's at www.atmallianceone.org or www.co-opnetwork.org.
